“We rightly rejoice and give thanks for the impressive achievements of science and technology, as a result of which countless ills that formerly plagued human life and caused great suffering have been remedied. At the same time, techno-scientific advances, by making it possible to exercise hitherto unprecedented control over reality, are placing in human hands a vast array of options, including some that may pose a risk to our survival….” - Pope Francis
Artificial Intelligence (“AI”) isn’t coming. It’s here. And it is changing our world.
But is AI changing the world for the better? Or are we on an existential collision course with super-intelligent robots?
That’s what we’re talking about this week with our guest Matthew Harvey Sanders, a technology entrepreneur, AI expert, and faithful Catholic.
Matthew started his career in the Canadian Forces before entering the Catholic seminary (he discerned out), then working for Canada’s Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade, then joining the Archdiocese of Toronto before ultimately founding his own company through which he and his team build Catholic AI. They’ve launched Magisterium AI as a generative AI product focused on making Church teaching and Catholic insight more accessible, Vulgate as an AI-driven library platform powering an historic digitization project with many Pontifical universities in Rome, and Christendom which simplifies watching, following, sharing and discovering Catholic content creators around the world (you can find Coffee, Commerce & Catechesis on the platform!). He helped numerous Vatican organizations more effectively leverage technology to accomplish their missions, laid the technological foundations for the Pope’s Migrants and Refugees Section, and is CEO of the Humanity 2.0 Foundation.
This episode is timely. AI is here whether we like it or not. Matthew helps us prepare for this wild new world.
